U-21 Hockey Championship: Rivers Female Team Emerges Champions
Team Rivers (Female) hockey emerged as Champions of the just concluded, Mabisel National U-21 Hockey Championship as they beat hard fighting Kaduna team 2-1 in the finals of the tournament, at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Sports Complex, in Port Harcourt.
While in the male category, team Kaduna narrowly beat Lagos 1-0 also in the finals, the two games were played at the weekend.
Speaking with Sports journalists after the final games, the Managing Director of Mabisel Group of Companies, Joseph Alagoa, stated that he sponsored the championship to encourage youths and take them off from streets.
He revealed that the tournament had discovered talented hockey players that could represent the country at anytime.
Alagoa expressed happiness over the successful hosting of the tournament, saying that this is not the first time he has sponsored the competition.
“It’s good to sponsor tournaments, because we need to encourage youths and bring them out of the street, through sports.
“I love to sponsor youth competitions, I have done it before, this is the second time and I will continue to do it,” he stated.
He further disclosed that team Rivers (Female) and Kaduna (Male) will go home with the sum of N2.5 million each.
The turnout of the event was massive. High point of the event was presentation of trophies and awards for Most Valuable Players (MVP) in the tournament.
