OML 25: RSG Stakeholders Review Progress In GMoU Implementation
In order to ensure sustained peace and further encourage economic growth, the Rivers State Government, yesterday, held a follow-up meeting on the Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) signed between the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) and Kula and Belema communities on OML 25 in Port Harcourt.
According to the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Tammy Danagogo, the meeting, which is a follow-up to earlier meetings, was intended to review the progress made on OML 25, and also afford government the opportunity to know how far the stakeholders in Kula Kingdom and SPDC have discharged their responsibilities as agreed in the settlement agreement of July1, 2019.
Speaking at the meeting, Danagogo maintained that the sole interest of Rivers State Government in Kula community, like any other oil-bearing community embroiled in dispute, was to importantly generate peace, boost business and restore social life, which has ripple effect on all.
The closed door meeting was attended by the General Manager, External Relations of Shell, the House of Assembly members representing Akuku-Toru Constituencies 1 and 2, Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government, chiefs and traditional rulers, and other members of Kula Kingdom as well as Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Ministry of Justice/Solicitor General and Special Service Bureau of the SSG Office.
