Books For Africa Opens Office In PH
In a bid to end the era of scarcity of books in the country, a non-profit organisation, “Books for Africa Initiative” has opened its office in Port Harcourt in a bid to offer free access of books to members of the public.
Speaking to our correspondent in his office D/Line Port Harcourt, the Trustee for Nigeria, Books for Africa Initiative, Mr. Stanley Zebulom said they have in stock all kinds of books ranging from Educational, Leisure, Research, Science, Medical among others.
Mr. Zebulom opined that their primary aim is to end the era of book scarcity adding that time has come to liberate the mind of people through reading.
He opined that the people of Rivers State are lucky to have been the only benefiting state in Nigeria from this gesture, adding that the purpose was to create a platform where people have books at affordable reach as they will have access to book “1200 cartons of books and 4,000 books are in our stock for all categories of persons to access and stop book scarcity in the state”, he added.
He urged people of the state including homes, schools, firms, libraries and individuals to avail themselves of this golden opportunity adding that they are ready to partner with any group to supply all kinds of modern books at no cost in other to encourage reading.
Also speaking, the Operation Manager of Book for Africa Initiative, Rivers State, Mrs. Fredba Paul reiterated that the organization which is first of its kind in Nigeria is aimed at liberating the people from the scarcity of book syndrome and give equal opportunity to everybody to have access to books in their chosen careers of interest.
Mrs. Paul hinted that they have books on Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Law, Technology, ICT, Engineering, Psychology, Economics, Leisure among others and called on Heads of Institutions, Politicians, Old students, philanthropists, Ministries of Education, Associations, Alumni and other well meaning Nigerians to afford themselves this ample opportunity to equip their libraries, promote educational advancement, gifts as constituency projects to schools as well as imbibe reading culture because they are out to end book famine in Nigeria and Rivers State in Port Harcourt.
