NAMA Lauds ILS’ Performance At Kaduna Airport
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Capt. Fola Akinkuotu has commended the performance of Instrument Landing System (ILS).
He described the ILS which was newly installed and calibrated and other navigational aids at the airport as highly sophisticated and a highly dependable equipment.
Akinkuotu, who made the commendation in a statement from the Public Affairs, signed by Olajumoke Adetona, and made available to aviation correspondent yesterday, explained that the navigational aids at the Kaduna Airport are performing optimally.
According to him, the effectiveness in performance of the navigational aids indicate that the airport can contend with the increased traffic on a 24 hour basis.
Akinkuotu, who is also an aeronautical engineer, also extolled the ingenuity of NAMA engineers for doing a good job on the installation of the ILS.
He described the engineers as highly experienced, pointing out that the components of the ILS, including the Distance Measuring Equipment (DME),Localizer and the Glideslope have two channels so that while one is working, the other is on standby, ensuing uninterrupted and seamless performance. The NAMA boss however lamented that the agency was spending huge sum in providing power to the navigational facilities as that of the national grid is either very low or epileptic
To mitigate this challenge, he said that plans were in the pipeline to deploy solar energy to ensure uninterrupted power supply to all the equipment and cooling systems.
