Minister Scores Aviation Industry High
The Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, has scored the nation’s aviation industry high, saying the industry is “safe and secure”.
Sirika, who made this remark during a stakeholders meeting of the industry, noted that the current strategy of investment in infrastructure and its regulations will ensure that Nigeria is not left behind.
He said that the sector has continued to undergo a series of reforms in order to sustain international best practices and ensure safety and security
“Certification of the Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA) and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, has made history in Nigeria’s aviation, in such that our airports are certified.
“Nigeria scored above 96% in security, which is near perfect, and 67% in safety, which is well above global average. Attainment of the International Standards Organisation (ISO) 9001 of 2015 certification by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency(NiMet), the only Meteorological Agency to achieve that, at the time”, he said.
Other achievements, according to him, include reconstruction and rehabilitation of runways, installation of navigational equipment at the nation’s major airports.
“These achievements and reforms have affirmed to the world that our industry is safe and secure, thus, increase the value of our airports and infrastructure, especially with the ongoing plans to concession four of our international airports,” he said.
According to him, the licensing of the Aviation Security (AVSEC)personnel of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to carry arms and complement the efforts of other agencies in handling security threat at the airports across is very remarkable.
