Why RSG Built Federal High Court – Aguma
The Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Emmanuel Aguma (SAN), has described the construction and completion of the Federal High Court by the Governor Nyesom Wike administration as a giant stride that will enhance access to justice.
Addressing journalists, yesterday at the High Court Complex, Aguma said the new complex has six courtrooms designed to resolve the challenges created by the old complex.
He said: “From the point of view of justice delivery, it is a giant stride. The work of Federal High Court judges in Rivers State is very high . The cases are many, currently some of the judges are working from the state High Court complex.
“There are enough courtrooms now for us to have a minimum of six judges of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt. We currently have four Federal High Court judges, but the complex has six courtrooms to accommodate more High Court judges”.
He said the complex will create room for the speedy dispensation of justice to litigants who approach the court.
“Basically, it is a service that Governor Nyesom Wike, is providing for all states that use the Federal High Court in Rivers State
“Also, it comes within the Excellency’s belief in the rule of law. It is not only the Federal High Court that the governor has just delivered, right now, we are also constructing a new National Industrial Court complex which also houses Six courtrooms. The governor is also reconstructing the Court of Appeal. His commitment to justice is total”, the attorney general said.
In his remarks, Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor on Special Projects, Mr Cyril Dum Witee said the governor decided to construct the new Federal High Court because of the dilapidated nature of the old complex.
He said the new Federal High Court complex has modern facilities that befit the status of Rivers State.
He said: “These six courtrooms are in the three floors of the building. Each of this courtroom has an exquisite chamber for the judge where he/she can relax and write judgements”.
The Federal High Court complex will be commissioned, today, as an access to justice initiative of Governor Wike, he said.
