Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has reiterated his call on traditional rulers to shun partisan politics.
Speaking during the 75th birthday celebration of the Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers and Amanyanabo of Opobo, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja last Friday in Port Harcourt , Governor Wike said that traditional rulers should focus on issues of culture, tradition and development of their respective communities.
The governor praised the Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers and Amanyanabo of Opobo, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja for always being apolitical and serving as an example to other traditional rulers.
The governor said that during the 2015 general elections, some traditional rulers refused to receive him as was the norm.
He noted that the Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers and Amanyanabo of Opobo, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja paid the price for being apolitical.
He said: “The Amanyanabo of Opobo and the Chairman of the Rivers Council of Traditional Rulers was humiliated for his decision to be apolitical.
”I will correct everything that was done to humiliate him in the past because he decided to be apolitical “.
Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers and Amanyanabo of Opobo, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, in his remarks, gave thanks to God for his mercies.
He said God has seen him through all his life challenges, especially when he lost his wife and son within two weeks during the 23 years battle for the stool of the Amanyanabo of Opobo.
King Dandeson Douglas Jaja commended Governor Wike for his execution of people oriented projects across the state.
Prominent traditional rulers from across Nigeria attended the event.
Meanwhile, Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has called on community leaders to work in unity to develop their respective communities.
Speaking during the fund raising for the construction of an ultra modern Civic Centre complex by the Rumuokwuta Community last Saturday, Governor Wike said community development efforts will complement the development programmes of his administration.
He noted that leaders should make sacrifices to advance communal interest through a united front.
The governor praised the Rumuokwuta community for supporting him during the 2015 general elections, pointing out that they will not regret their support for him.
He said: “Because of the sacrifices the Rumuokwuta community made for me when I was in need, I will also support them.
”When you are at war and you see a brother who supports you, when it is his turn , you have no choice but to support him. We must encourage and support ourselves.”
The governor explained that he embarked on the total rehabilitation and expansion of the Government Girls Secondary School in Rumuokwuta because the people deserve the best.
”The Rumuokwuta community didn’t lobby for the rehabilitation of the Government Girls Secondary School. I took the decision to rehabilitate the school because the people deserve it”, Governor Wike said.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.

This commendation was contained in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.

According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.

Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”

She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.

A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.
