World Bank Commissions Water Projects In Elele Alimini
Six water boreholes and
two water catchment pits have been commissioned by the World Bank in Elele Alimini in Emohua Local Government Area.
The scheme was jointly executed by the World Bank, the European Union (EU) and the Rivers State Government under the Community Development Driven Social Project Implementation Unit (CDDSPIU), a component of State Employment and Expenditure for Result (SEEFOR) project.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Chieftaincy/Community Affairs, Sir. Samuel Ibemeru said that the project was part of the ongoing effort by the State Government to develop the rural areas.
Sir Ibemeru said that the six boreholes as well as the water catchment pits would help to check water-borne diseases in the community as well as deflood the Elele Alimini Market.
The Permanent Secretary described the ceremony as unique as Elele Alimini is the first community in the state to have benefitted from the CDDSPIU micro project.
He also urged the people to protect the projects from vandalisation so that more projects would be executed in the area.
In his keynote address, the Project Director, SEEFOR Rivers CDDS-PIU (MCCA), Sir ThankGod Amaewhule described the event as a milestone in their efforts at enhancing access of rural communities in Rivers State to basic social infrastructure.
Sir Amaewhule also said that the project would help to deflood the Elele Alimini market during rainy season as well as curb the incidence of water-borne diseases.
In his remarks, the Nyenweli of Elele Alimini, Eze Chibuike G. Dike thanked the state government for giving the community a sense of belonging.
He assured that his community would make proper use of the project.
