‘No Crisis In RIVPA’
The Rivers State
Independent Publishers Association (RIVPA), has denied any faction within its fold.
This is contained in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the association, Mr Dimkpa Aliko and the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Gloria Boma, which was made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt.
The statement which was reacting to a publication in one of the local papers said that the association was neither factionalised nor in crisis.
It explained that what appeared to be crisis was a matter which was pending in court between the association and six of its members which congress decided that the matter should be resolved by the court to test the veracity of its constitution.
RIVPA is a chartered association, stressing that any attempt by any individual or group to wade into the matter would be treated as contempt of court.
The statement also condemned the misrepresentation of the association’s name in the publication, saying RIVPA is an acronym for Rivers State Independent Publishers’ Association and not Rivers State Indigenous Publisher’s Association as the publication wanted people to believe.
According to the statement, membership cuts across indigenes and non-indigenes to reflect the cosmopolitan nature of Port Harcourt and the state”..
It also added that, the association was ready to partner with the NUJ and other groups to address the problem of touting in the profession.
