EPA Plans Befitting Palace For New Eze-Egi
The Egi People’s Assembly
(EPA), an apex socio-cultural organisation in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local government Area, says it will in due course build a befitting palace for its new king, Professor Anele Uzondu Nwokoma, Eze-Egi III (Eze-Ogbauku) of Ogbaland.
The President-General of the organisation, Apostle Magnus Elemele said EPA had thought it wise to embark on the project in appreciation of the contribution of the Monarch to the development of Egi land.
Apostle Elemele said the visit was formerly to introduce the new executive of EPA , pay the traditional homage and solidarity and to seek areas of co-operation between the palace and the organisation as to move the clan forward.
“We are happy to Governor Wike for approving you as the new occupant of the stool.”
The President-General remarked that Egi had almost lost its glory because of the importation of alien culture of violence in settling difference by some youths and commended the Egi monarch for his efforts to restore peace in the area.
He however, called on all zonal chiefs, eminent citizens, youths , the clergy and women organisations to join hands with the traditional ruler to reform and restore the clan back to its lost glory.
Earlier, King Nwokoma had lamented the dwindling fortunes of Egi clan as a result of crises, saying even though the area produces about 37 percent of the estimated 47 per cent of Rivers State oil revenue contribution to national purse, there is nothing on ground to show for it.
He urged the leadership of EPA to approach Federal Government for the clan’s quota of development projects based on its oil and gas production.
The traditional ruler attributed the cause of the present youth restiveness to long neglect of the people both in human development and in infrastructural provision, adding that the present administration in Rivers State under Governor Nyesom Wike had promised to reverse the situation.
