BMGS: Group Harps On Reading Culture
The President of Coalition
of Concerned Non-Governmental Organisations, Civil Society Organisations and Community-Based Organisations (CCNCC) for Governor Wike’s 2015 Election, Comrade Christian Obi has again called on students to take their studies seriously to better their lot in the society.
Obi was speaking when members of his group presented 20,000 customised exercise books and pens to students of Birabi Memorial Grammar School (BMGS), Bori, recently.
According to him, CCNCC is poised to put smiles on the faces of the best 20 vibrant, hard working and brilliant students in each class to encourage a healthy competition amongst the students in their studies.
He said the gesture was in support of Governor Wike’s achievements in the past one year, and enjoined the students to imbibe reading culture in order to excel in their academic pursuits.
In his speech, one of the CCNCC Elders, Dr. Abel Awani noted that BMGS, Bori, was chosen to benefit in this first phase of exercise amongst schools in the three Senatorial Districts due to the importance of the school in the advancement of quality education in the Ogoni axis.
Awani further thanked the Chiefs, Women and Youth of Baabe Clan, Bori, for the warm reception given them, and also extended the group’s appreciation to the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku for kick-starting the project at Community Secondary School, Rumuepirikom, as well as Chief Victor Odili and the Caretaker Committee Chairman for their support.
In his response, the Principal of BMGS, Bori, Mr. Kikoh Charles, expressed joy that his school was among the first batch of public schools to benefit from the gesture, and commended CCNCC for its contribution to educational development of the state.
Earlier, members of CCNCC had paid a courtesy call on the Gbenemene of Baabe Kingdom, His Royal Highness, King Lenu Saro Igbara and his council of Chiefs at the Palace and were warmly received.
It would be recalled that the CCNCC had on June 29, launched the initiative at Community Secondary School, Rumuepirikom in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, followed with subsequent donations to Central Secondary School, Omoku; Government Secondary, Ndoni in ONELGA and Birabi Memorial Grammar School, Bori, last week.
