Diouf confident Senegal will qualify for W/Cup
Former Senegal interna
tional striker El Hadji Diouf is confident that his country will qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The Senegalese legend was quoted by the Tidesports source after x-raying the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers draw – African Zone – on Friday in Cairo.
The Lions of Teranga are in Group D with South Africa, Cape Verde and Burkina Faso.
“We are in a group that, in my opinion, is very easy and well within our reach,” he observed.
“If we can’t qualify from this group, then I don’t know when we will qualify.
“But that does not mean we should sit back and watch others work. We must ensure our status as favourite.
“Winning games, especially at home.
“It starts with a good African Nations Cup. Our participation in the AFCON will impact significantly on the qualifiers for the World Cup in 2018.
“The AFCON can give a lot of confidence in this team.”
Aliou Cisse’s men will kick-off their campaign against Cape Verde in October, before going head-to-head with Bafana Bafana in November.
