Computer Society Seeks More Funds For Digital Colony
In a bid to make the
country a digital vibrant colony, the Federal Government has been charged to inject sufficient funds into the digital development of the country.
The President of Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Prof Sola Aderounmu, said this while addressing newsmen over the week in Lagos.
He said there is need for the Federal Government to ensure that national security is well protected and handled by the information technology.
Aderounmu, who spoke ahead of the 2016 NCS national conference, said there is also need to advancing national safety and security, innovation, and networking security, since they are among most critical issues in Nigeria.
The NCS boss, who frowned at engaging foreigners to handle security, issues in the country, said, he remains an advocate of the use of ICT in addressing security challenges.
He was of the view that more wide spread adoption of IT professionalism in the private sector would do the needed magic wand towards improving security network in the country.
According to him, the NCS along side its members can assist in improving the state of security in the country.
The Tide gathered that if data are well analysed, that IT use can successfully combat terrorism, enhance public service delivery, accountability, job creation, among others.
The Tide further learnt that this year’s NCS national conference will hold in Abuja from Saturday 19 – Monday July 21, 2016.
Reacting to the upcoming event, a computer expert in Port Harcourt, Engr Hafunichi Didia, advised that the event should be rotational as to allow for better participation by IT professionals . Didia said that all computer professionals ought to be involved in the conference and its events.
