Stakeholder Wants Modern Facilities At PH Port
Concessionaires of the
Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Port Harcourt Port in Rivers State have again been charged to redouble their efforts in modernising the port, in order to attract investors and compete favourably with others in the country.
A stakeholder and Managing Director of Marco Marine Limited, Chief Marcus Emenike made the assertion during an interview with our correspondent in Port Harcourt, Wednesday.
Emenike said the concessionaires should live up to their terminal agreements with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) by giving the Port a face-lift in line with global best practices with world class modern equipment and facilities.
He said with world best facilities, investors and importers would patronise the port and there would be increased productivity with reduced cost doing business at the port.
The stakeholder further noted that first class infrastructures would definitely improve cargo handling and create conducive working environment at the Port with increased volume of cargoes, pointing out that despite the economic situation that is also affecting the ports generally, something should be done to attract investors.
Emenike said with Rivers State fast becoming an investment hub due to the road network to the ports, concessionaires of the port should take advantage and modernise the port facilities and equipment to standard.
On the rail reconstruction to the port, he opined that it would also help in transaction of cargoes to their destinations at lower cost and on time, and appealed to the authorities to also consider linking the rail line to the port.
He, however, enjoined stakeholders to ensure that maritime sector was given a boost in the state.
