The Rivers State Gov
ernment, through the State Ministry of Power, has embarked on reactivation and installation of street lights on major roads in Port Harcourt.
This, according to the Commissioner for Power, Mr. Michael Anwuri, is inline with the NEW Rivers Vision of developing the state in all spheres.
Anwuri, who disclosed this recently, in his office, said “there is an urgent need to illuminate the streets of Port Harcourt.
He explained that most road accidents at night were as a result of poor lighting system, adding that hoodlums also take advantage of this situation to perpetrate criminal acts”.
“Apart from street lights being infrastructure that beautifies the environment, it is an agent that stimulates sight and make things visible at night for pedestrians and motorists, and minimises vandalism of vital installations of government on our roads,” he said.
While assuring the commitment of the state Governor, Barrister Nyesom Wike, on the safety and security of residents in the state, the commissioner called for the protection of government property by the people.
