C’River Ready To Turn Waste Into Wealth
The Cross River State
government has expressed its willingness to partner with the federal ministry of science and technology to use science and technology development to convert waste to wealth.
This position was made known by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ivara Ejemot Esu, when he received a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology Abuja and the Council of Entrepreneurs for Africa- Canada (COEFA) led by Dr Habiba Lawal in his office in Government House, Calabar.
Deputy Governor expressed the hope that the state would be the first among the selected pilot states to commence the programme, stating that the deliberate assemblage of focal and relevant heads of ministries and agencies in this regard was a clear indication of state government’s readiness to streamline and get the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) executed properly.
While expressing appreciation to the team, the deputy governor urged them to drive the process in a manner that would create wealth, jobs and ensure the ultimate development of the people..
In her presentation, the leader of the delegation and Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr. Habiba Lawal, informed that they were in the state to partner with government on how they could turn around the economic fortunes of the state using science and technology development.
She maintained that the essence of the programme was to support the efforts of the state government to create wealth and jobs for the teeming youths.
Dr. Lawal, therefore, called for the setting up of a committee at the state level that would liaise with the federal ministry of science and technology for effective communication and implementation.
The team later embarked on facility visit to the waste dump site at Lemna road in Calabar.
