NYSC Official Tasks Corps Members On Community Dev
The Head of Community
Development at the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Bayelsa State, Mrs Christy Harry, has urged corps members to impact on the society through community development projects.
Harry told newsmen in Yenagoa that community development was one of the core objectives of the NYSC.
She appealed to members of the public and organisations to encourage corps members in their efforts to actualise their community development plans.
Harry said that the youth corps members were expected to interact with the communities where they serve, identify their needs and mobilise resources from individuals and organisations to meet the needs.
She commended, Dr Olivia Ayozie, a youth corps member, who donated 20 units of three seater desks to a community secondary school, Opolo in Yenagoa.
Harry noted that Ayozie was outstanding and exemplary in her selfless service beyond what was ordinarily expected of an individual corps member.
She said that Ayozie had embarked on five different community development projects within her service year in the state.
Harry explained that the corps member had donated drugs to the NYSC camp, conducted free medical service to a community in Yenagoa, free HIV and AIDS screening and empowerment scheme for widows and the elderly.
She said that the projects had meaningful impacts on the larger society outside the place of assignment of the corps member attached to the Joint Military Operations hospital in Yenagoa.
Harry urged other corps members to emulate Ayozie who had exemplified the NYSC policy of making positive impact on the Nigerian society.
