Wike Assures Of A Greater Rivers In 2016
Governor Nyesom Wike swore-in more 15 Special Advisers to assist in the governance of the State. The new aides who are yet to receive their portfolios were the last for the year 2015 according to the Rivers State Chief Executive.
Governor Wike charged them to use the opportunity given to them to serve and further the interest of the state, reminding them that “You will be remembered for what you have done and contributed”. The governor, shortly after the swearing-in of the SAs, participated with his wife, Justice Eberechi Suzette Wike, in the Christmas party for children. Excited with the governor’s presence the children took photographs shook hands and received from the first family.
Returning from Abuja on Wednesday, the governor declared open the fourth quarterly meeting of the State Council of Traditional Rulers. He lauded the royal fathers for their contribution to governance and peace in the state and assured them of government’s continued assistance as touching the grassroots.
Governor Wike during his remarks at the traditional rulers council meeting, promised that as an incentive to sustain the relative peace in the state will give stipends and rewards to communities where peace is sustained.
The governor on Thursday commissioned the Odili/Woji/Akpajo Road, from the axis between Woji and Abuloma Road. The project was started by the immediate past administration but suffered a set back. On assuming office in May, Governor Wike released funds to continue the project.
The road covers about 1.672 kilomtres and is a dual carriage way with walkway, Governor Wike during the commissioning, promised that street lights will be installed on the road to give it a good ambience and aid security in the night.
The governor also used the occasion to hint of plans to commence the Woji/Rumuigbo Road and the Elelenwo/Akpajo Road. The projects are expected to commence this year, he said.
On Friday, the governor, after a brief exco meeting gave a special New Year message in a state-wide broadcast.
He assured that the state was in the path of greatness, as his administration had put everything in place to make the state conducive for business through infrastructure and human resource development.

LP Crisis: Ex-NWC Member Dumps Dumps Abure Faction
Mr Ojukwu, who recently returned to the interim National Working Committee led by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, noted that the party had 34 elected members in the House of Representatives, eight Senators, and 80 members at the state Houses of Assembly after the 2023 general elections.
“Now we lost all of them,” he said. “I don’t think we have as many as five members in the National Assembly.”
The former national officer of the LP talked to journalists in Abuja and said he chose to join the caretaker committee led by Senator Nenadi-Usman because they are now the officially recognized leaders of the Party.
“I chose to work with the caretaker committee to help save the Labour Party, for the benefit of the party. I also want to use this chance to ask my colleagues at the national, state, and local government levels to come together and help rebuild our party.
“Another election is around the corner. We lost everything we have. They have left to other political parties. So I’ll reach out to all my friends in the other group to get together and work on making this party stronger again.
“The caretaker committee has formed a reconciliation committee. Let’s come together and talk so that we can restore the first opposition political party in Nigeria.”
Mr Ojukwu, who was part of the Julius Abure’s group, said there are no more factions in the LP.
He added, “There is a court ruling, and since it is valid, the right people are in the correct positions.”
He urged Barr Abure and others to drop the legal cases they have filed because they are not helping the party.
“Litigations are killing political parties”, he said. “They’ve seen many political parties disappear because of legal battles, and the Labor Party is losing support every day, which makes me feel sad.”
Mr Ojukwu said he did not think joining the Senator Nenadi-Usman’s NWC was a betrayal of the Abure group, describing himself as “the oxygen” of that faction.
“I’m with this group because of the verdict. But I never betrayed anybody. Rather, I was betrayed,” he added.
