SEEFOR Creates 4,131 Jobs In Delta
The State Employment and Expenditure for Results (SEEFOR) in Delta has created 4,131 jobs in the last three years in the state, Mr Benson Ojoko, SEEFOR Coordinator, said.
Ojoko made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen in Asaba recently.
He said that 1,386 of the jobs were created for males, while 3,045 jobs were created for females.
SEEFOR is a World Bank and European Union (EU)-sponsored project in which the Delta Government is a participant.
He said the objective of SEEFOR was to enhance youth employment opportunities and access to socio-economic services while improving the public financial management systems of participating states.
The state coordinator said that SEEFOR project was under the investment lending window of the World Bank which usually had a duration period of five years.
He said the main beneficiaries of the project were the four participating governments of Delta, Edo, Bayelsa and Rivers.
Ojoko explained that mainly youths were engaged in the programme in addition to 50 small road maintenance contractors and 160 Private Sector Participants (PSPs).
He said that the project involved refuse collection and disposal, among other engagements, in six local government areas of Delta.
He named the council areas as Oshimili South, Warri South, Uvwie, Ughelli North, Sapele and Udu.
He also said that over N100 million was generated from refuse disposal within the period.
“Over N100 million was generated from payments made by households and business premises for services provided by the PSPs across the major cities of the state.
“This underscores the potential for its sustainability,’’ he said.
The SEEFOR project has given grants to the six technical colleges in Delta, and also engaged youths in street sweeping, tree planting and other environmental hygiene activities.
The five-year project that started in 2012 would end in 2017 with the refuse disposal aspect terminating next month.
