NSCDC Blames Incessant Vandalism On Insider Collaboration
The Nigerian Security and
Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Akwa Ibom State Command, has blamed incessant vandalism of public installations on insider collaboration.
The State Commandant of the Corps, Mr Emmanuel Oyeniyi made the statement in Uyo while addressing newsmen.
He declared that ordinary persons on the streets do not have the technical knowhow to tamper with such public installations.
“Ordinary bricklayer cannot know what is inside transformers; an ordinary person cannot wake up one day and say I want to go and look at the transformer and bring something out of it.
“We are saying that those who are doing it are people who are connected and know about the job and they are the people who want to render the power policy of the government useless,’’ Oyeniyi said.
He said the command had commenced intensive monitoring of transformers across the state, adding that men of the corps had been distributed to monitor transformers in flash points.
Oyeniyi said that officials of the corps had apprehended some of the vandals who tampered with transformers in the state, and vowed that the perpetrators would be brought to book.
He appealed to the people of the state not to tamper with government installations.
The commandant restated the commitment of the command to reduce vandalism to the barest minimum.
He solicited for logistics support from the state government to ensure effective monitoring of installations across the state.
Oyeniyi advised the youths to be contented with what they have and shun criminal tendencies like vandalism and adulteration of petroleum products.
He appealed to the public to always report cases of criminal activities in their areas to officers of the command.
