Edo: FADAMA, SEEFOR Disburse N45.8m To Farmers
Fadama III in Edo State in
collaboration with the State Employment and Expenditure for Results (SEEFOR), have disbursed N45.8 million to farmers during the last one year in the drive to boost agricultural production.
The state Fadama III Project Coordinator, Mr Edward Izivbigie, made the disclosure in Benin during the disbursement of the second tranche of N19.7 million to another set of beneficiaries.
He said that N26.1 million was disbursed during the first phase, bringing the total disbursement to N45.8 million from 2014 to date.
He said that 175 Fadama Users Groups (FUG) and 2,783 beneficiaries had benefited from the Fadama/SEEFOR collaboration to boost farming.
Izivbigie said the essence of the collaboration between the two organizations was to increase the income of Fadama users on a sustainable manner.
“In every 100 Fadama beneficiaries, the income of 75 of them would have been increased by at least 40 per cent,” he said.
In his remark, the state Coordinator of SEEFOR, Mr Taiwo Akerele, advised the beneficiaries to put the money into good use.
He said the output and results of funds disbursed earlier through the collaboration had been encouraging.
“Our decision to go into this partnership is not only to increase the capacity of the groups but to increase food production in the state as well,” he said.
Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Itohan Obayangbona, expressed satisfaction that the collaboration between Fadama III and SEEFOR had created jobs for rural farmers.
