FRSC, NDLEA Partner To Re-Train Tanker Drivers
The Federal Road Safety
Commission (FRSC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have concluded arrangements for the retraining of petroleum tanker drivers in the country.
Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, disclosed this during the National Executive Council meeting of Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) held on Saturday in Sokoto.
Oyeyemi said the aim was to reduce traffic accidents in the country and promote positive attitude among drivers.
According to him, the retraining programme will enable the tanker drivers to be familiar with rules and regulations guiding their trade.
“By this exercise, road traffic crashes on major highways across the country are expected to be prevented and greatly reduced,” he said.
The corps marshal said the FRSC would continue to enlighten motorists to avoid speeding, drug addiction and overloading in order to safeguard their lives and other road users.
He said that the introduction of the speed limiter was to further reduce accidents and deaths on the road.
“Henceforth all trucks and tankers would be installed with speed limiting device to checkmate excess speeding.
“FRSC will also collaborate with the PTD and officials of the NDLEA in checking drivers engaged in the use of alcohol and other narcotics while on wheels,” he said.
The corps marshal solicited for useful suggestions from the general public on ways to improve the safety of roads in the country.
