A’Ibom: FRSC Records 15% Reduction In Road Accidents
The Federal Road
Safety Commission said that it had recorded 15 per cent reduction in road traffic accidents and 25 per cent reduction in fatality rate in Akwa Ibom in 2014.
The Sector Commander of the commission in Akwa Ibom, Mr Ramalan Yerima, said this during an interaction with newsmen in Uyo.
Yerima attributed the reduction to sensitisation campaign carried out by the command.
“As a matter of fact, in 2014 we recorded 15 per cent reduction in road traffic crashes and 25 per cent in fatality rate in Akwa Ibom State.
“We have put a lot of intervention in place that reduced road traffic crashes in the state and we promise to improve on our performance in 2015,” he said.
He said that the predominant risk factors to road traffic accidents in the state were speed limit violation and dangerous driving.
He said that the command had during the year under review embarked on “Operations Visit All Motor Parks” and night patrols.
The sector commander said this was with a view to apprehending drunk drivers and identifying vehicles with faulty lights.
He said the command’s personnel had also visited churches and mosques to sensitise the congregation on safe driving.
Yerima commended sister agencies and stakeholders in the transport sector for cooperating with the commission which he said had helped in recording the successes in 2014.
He advised motorists to adhere to road traffic rules in 2015.
