NESREA Begins Sanitation Awareness In Military Barracks, Soon
The National Envi
ronmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), says it would soon commence environmental education and awareness as well as sanitation and waste control in military barracks nationwide.
This is contained in a statement signed on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary of the agency, Mr Sule Oyofo, and made available to newsmen in Abuja.
It quoted Mr Huzi Mshelia, the Board Chairman, as saying this when he led the management team of the agency on a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshall Alex Bade.
It said that during the visit, the NESREA Director-General, Dr Ngeri Benebo, identified environmental crime as a serious problem.
She added that it could directly or indirectly impact on the economy, security of the nation and human existence.
Benebo said this could only be effectively tackled through the unified efforts of the international community as well as national law enforcement and regulatory agencies.
She also noted that environmental elements or components could be used in terrorist activities.
She, therefore, called for the assistance of the military in tackling environmental crimes such as illegal trade in wildlife and controlled chemicals.
Benebo outlined the areas of collaboration to include environmental education and awareness, sanitation and waste control.
