Rivers Angels Still Top League Table
Rivers Angels FC of Port
Harcourt, says it has strengthened the team’s position to remain on top of the Nigeria Women Primier League Table after the Angels walked-over their Taraba Queens FC opponent at the weekend.
The match , which was one of the week 15 fixtures of the on-going NWPL between Rivers Angels and their visitors, Taraba Queens did not hold due to alleged inability of the Taraba Queens management to release funds for the team to honour the game.
With this development, the Nigeria women league body has awarded 3 points and 3 goals to the host, Rivers Angels FC.
Meanwhile, the team has four outstanding games to be played agaisnt Nasarawa Amazons, Pelican Stars, Delta Queens and Sunshine Queens of Akure.
The league is expected to go on recess after this weekend’s games in solidarity with the on-going FIFA Men’s World Cup.
It would be recalled that the Angels were presently on top of the league with 27 points from 11 matches played so far in league.
According to assistant coach of the team, Whyte Ogbondah, the break would last for two weeks, saying that, the Angels would resume in a week’s time in order to commence training ahead of the week 16 match.
