Apprentice Bags 20 Days Jail Term For Theft

Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, last Wednesday sentenced an apprentice, Idowu Amowo, to 500 hours (about 20 days) community service for breaking into a house and stealing a wristwatch worth N3,500.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.F. Adeeyo, ordered that the 18-year-old convict should be kept in prison custody for six days to experience the “other side of life’’.
She adjourned the case to April 22 when the accused would be brought to court to commence his community service.
Our correspondent reports that Amowo had pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Jimoh Iseghede, told the court that the accused had on April 8 entered a room at 17, Tapa Compound, Orile-Iganmu, Lagos, to steal a wristwatch worth N3, 500.
According to him, the wristwatch belongs to one Mr Kingsley Ogbonna.
He said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
