2015: ACD To Field Technocrat For Rivers Governorship
One of the opposition
parties in Rivers State, the Advance Congress of Democrats (ACD) may field a technocrat in the oil and gas sector as its governorship flagbearer in the 2015 general elections.
The state chairman of the party, Hon Nweke Echezolam gave this indication in Port Harcourt, last Wednesday, in an exclusive interview with The Tide.
Echezolam said the state was rich in oil and gas and therefore required an expert in the sector to manage the affairs of the state.
Assuring the people of the state of better opportunities if the ACD was voted into power, Echezolam said employment opportunities, and poverty eradication would be the cardinal focus of the ACD administration in the state.
According to him, Rivers State has enormous resources that could be harnessed to cushion the effects of poverty and unemployment in the state.
The ACD chairman noted that the overwhelming support the party enjoys in all the 23 local government areas of the state was an indication that the people of the state are yearning for change in the state.
Expressing optimism that the 2015 general elections would be free and fair in the country, Echezolam, however, urged the people of the state not to mortgage their conscience and future of their children by voting for the right candidates.

APC Unveils New NWC At National Convention
Delegates at the convention, held at the Eagle Square, also produced a new national working committee (NWC) through a consensus arrangement endorsed by stakeholders.
Dr Ben Nwoye was named deputy national chairman (south), replacing Mr Emma Eneukwu, following consultations within the party.
Sources within the party said the decision was influenced by zoning considerations and consultations among party leaders, with Mr Peter Mbah, Enugu State governor, playing a significant role in ensuring Dr Nwoye’s inclusion.
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Yilwatda said his re-election was a call to greater service and pledged commitment to unity within the ruling party.
“We are ready to serve, ready to lead, and we are ready to build the party, together with the nation,” he said.
He added that the new leadership would not “fail or falter” in carrying out its responsibilities.
President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, governors, members of the national assembly, and other party leaders graced the convention.
