The Karate Federation of
Nigeria (KFN) has appealed to karate associations to participate in the President’s Open Karate Championships, billed for Ilorin from March 26 to March 29.
The KFN Secretary, Tony Idaye, made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.
Idaye said that the championships would aid athletes in the upcoming National Sports Festival (NSF) in Calabar and other national and international championships.
“The purpose of the championships is basically to reposition the sport at all levels and prepare athletes for the NSF.
“It is to identify new talents and encourage athletes that have been consistent in training.
“Being an open championship, karatakers of all categories will have the opportunity of competing favorably and improvingn on their current standard.’’
Idaye said that the KFN would also organise a refresher course before the event to update officials on current rules of the sport.
The KFN scribe added that winners in various categories of the sport would be rewarded.
The championship is being sponsored by the KFN president, Damatus Agu-Ejidike.
