C’River Disburses N470m For Community-Based Projects
Governor Liyel Imoke
of Cross River State, says the government has disbursed more than N470 million toward the execution of community-based projects in the state.
He made the disclosure in Calabar while presenting cheque to the benefitting communities.
He said that the disbursement was made possible through the state government’s Community and Social Development Agency (CRS-CSDA).
The governor said that the amount was disbursed to 55 communities in 12 local government areas of the state, noting that the use of communities to execute projects had been cost effective and result-oriented.
Such projects, he added, had created tremendous values to the communities because beneficiaries were involved.
Imoke advised the communities to treat the World Bank-assisted projects in their areas as their personal belongings.
The governor also called on the beneficiaries to use the money wisely and execute the projects within the time frame and ensure quality jobs.
He urged political office holders in the state to sensitise their constituents on the use of community involvement in infrastructure development, saying such an approach would attract rapid development.
“I will make sure that those who hold political offices but have not contributed to community based projects in their areas are booed by the people they represent,’’ he said.
