Akas Baba’s Whereabouts Unknown, Seven Days After
There is growing tension and anxiety among concerned residents of Rivers State and fans of popular Wazobia FM presenter, Anthony Akatakpo, alias Akas Baba as his whereabouts remains unknown seven days after he was kidnapped from his house by gunmen.
Callers on radio as well as groups and individuals have been making passionate appeal to the kidnappers to release him, especially as he was shot before he was taken away.
According to his wife, Mrs Candy Akatakpo, the gunmen invaded their house at about 2am, captured her husband, shot him in the leg, and took him away in his car.
She noted that the abductors demanded N10million ransom for his release, pointing out that they operated for over 50 minutes before they took off.
She expressed fears about the health of her husband because of the gunshot in his leg, and appealed to security agencies in the state to do everything within their powers to secure his release.
The Station Manager, Cool/Wazobia FM/Nigeria Info, Aduratomi Bolade, confirmed last night that Akas Baba’s abductors were yet to make any contact with the family and the station.
The abduction of the ace presenter has continued to elicit the ire and condemnation of a cross section of the society, who have continued to call for his unconditional release.
The Rivers State Police Commissioner, Tunde Ogunsakin, who led a team of officers to the home of the on-air personality last Thursday, said that the police had commenced investigation into the incident.
He assured that the police would work hard to free Mr Akatakpo and apprehend his abductors.
He also reiterated his warning to kidnappers and other criminal elements to leave the state or face the consequences.
