Ministry, Japanese Agency Partner On Solar Plant
The Federal Ministry
of Power has said that it will partner with the Japanese International Co-operation Agency (JICA) for the construction of a solar powered plant worth N1.66 billion to be sited in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Godknows Igali, disclosed this to newsmen at the Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa over the weekend, while on the entourage of President Goodluck Jonathan on a visit to Bayelsa State.
Igali said the plant would provide electricity for the treatment of water at the Bwari Area Council of the FCT when completed.
He said the Federal government is ready to give the necessary support to the project is dear to Nigerians as it will ensure operational efficiency for the treatment plant and also make power available for people within the Bwari Area Council.
He said there was the need to explore the use of renewable energy since Nigeria had abundance of the natural resources needed for it.
The Permanent Secretary commended JICA for the initiative and for its other projects in the country, including rural electrification project, water environment and capacity building of Nigerians in various areas.
He said the federal government would continue to promote the cordial business relationship between Nigeria and Japan.
