Youth Body Sets Agenda For New nddc Boss
A group labelled Niger
Delta Youth Empowerment, Development and Enlightenment has called on the new Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC) to leave a better legacy.
President of the body, Darlington Ogolo in a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt at the weekend said he believed that the new Managing Director of NDDC,Barrister Dan Abia from Akwa-Ibom State would rise up to the challenge following his experience in the public service.
“Times have changed for them and what they should do at this point in time is to wake to the realities…We agree that the NDDC plays a very important role in our quest to restructure the Niger Delta region and the country in general. To achieve this we need a leader with intergrity; we need a man of courage.
In the battle against poverty in the Niger Delta region and the country as a whole, Barrister Abia stands tall ‘’.
He called on those planning to foment trouble and to scuttle the vision of ensuring that headship of the agency goes round the states to stop in order to drive development of the region.
Ogolo identified poor management as one of the biggest challenges facing the commission, saying, “ most times, some misfits who find themselves in positions of authority end up spoiling the region and leaving it worse than they met it’’.
The youth president also blamed the elite from the region for displaying apathy over issues that concerned development..
He therefore urged President Jonathan to disregard those jostling for the top job in NDDC, advising that only trusted men and women of integrity should be placed at the helm of affairs of the interventionist agency.
“ In times like this, what the region needs is a personality of intergrity, courage, wisdom, leadership acumen and a prudent manager of resources. Dan Abia represents this,’’ he added.
