Perm Sec Advises Fathers To Be Role Models
The Permanent Secretary,
in the Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communication, Mrs Jokotade Adamu has advised fathers to draw closer to God in all their endeavours and become role models for their children to emulate.
Speaking at an event organised by Destiny Project at the Weekend in Port Harcourt, Mrs Adamu also called on fathers to give both physical and spiritual protections to their families.
She said that the society looks up to fathers for correction, especially against the background of the increasing levels of anti-social vices in the society.
The Permanent Secretary said that the programme which has as theme: “Where are the fathers” will go a along way to reawaken the consciousness of fathers in the discharging of their functions to their respective families:
In his key note address, Rev. Marius Alugwe of Christian Pentecostal Mission (CPM) urged fathers to discharge other responsibilities to their children, noting hat true fathers were those who understand both the spiritual and physical needs of their children.
The clergyman who regretted that churches are not undergoing transformation said that the apostolic function of every generation was for succession and continuance of God’s purpose.
In his words; “God’s intention for fatherhood and sonship is to ensure succession. The society needs spiritual fathering”.
In her welcome address, the Executive Director of Destiny Project, Pastor (Mrs) Bridget Okujagu attributed the high rate of societal vices to the disintegration of the family.
Pastor Okujagu said that many fathers has abandoned their responsibilities to their families, a situation created room for the penetration of vices in the family unit.
According to her, the mystery of fatherhood was to understand how to connect to God, the father and stressed the need for fathers to be exemplary in their conduct to members of their immediate families and the rest of the society.
