Shell Shuts TNP In Ogoniland
The Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) last Wednesday shut the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) following reports of new leaks, barely 10 days after the line was repaired following crude oil theft incidents and reopened for normal crude transport.
The TNP pumps some 150,000 barrels oil per day to the Bonny Export Terminal in Rivers State.
This latest action means that more than 150,000 barrels of oil per day have been deferred until the leaks are clamped until repairs completed.
In a statement signed by Acting Corporate Media Relations Manager, Precious Okolobo, “the latest leaks were reported at B-Dere, Nonwa-Tai, and Bodo West all in Ogoni land”.
The statement added that “SPDC shut the line as a precautionary measure after receiving reports of the incidents and has also mobilised a spill response team”.
According to the statement, “a joint investigation visit will be conducted as soon as possible to determine the cause and impact of the spills”.
