Rivers Police Command Gets New PPRO
A new Police Public Rela
tions Officer (PPRO) has been appointed for the Rivers State Police Command.
He is DSP Ahmad, Kidaya Muhammed wjp\horeplaces the DSP Angela Agabe, who has been redeployed to the, welfare department of the command.
Before his appointment, DSP Muhammed was the Principal Personal Assistant (PPA) to the state Commissioner of Police, Mbu Joseph Mbu.
DSP Muhammad joined the Nigeria Police in 2005 as Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. He is a holder of Bachelor degree in Mass Communication obtained from the Bayero University, Kano in 2000 and has also served as PPRO in Taraba and Gombe States Police Commands, respectively.
Although, no reason was given for the sudden change, many people in the state believed that the change may not be unconnected with the political intrigues playing in the state, especially with regard to the relationship between the state governor, Rt. Hon. Chuike Rotimi Amaechi and the State Commissioner of Police, Mbu Joseph Mbu.
The state governor had accused the commissioner of playing politics with his position and requested his redeployment.
Many also believe that the frosty relationship between the state chief executive and the Commissioner of Police has adversely affected police performance in the state.
Addressing journalists at a brief handing over ceremony at the state police command in Port Harcourt last Tuesday to officially effect the change of guard in the Police Public Relations leadership, the new Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ahmad Muhammed disclosed that the change was a normal routine exercise in the force and has no political motive, adding that “postings and deployment of officers in the force were normal routine.
The police spokesperson solicited for the co-operation of people of the state and the media in the command’squest to provide a peaceful and crime, free environment for sustained economic activities in the state.
