NEMA Shares Relief Materials To Adamawa, Borno, Yobe
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said yesterday in Maiduguri it had begun distributing food items to communities affected by the state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.
In a statement by NEMA’s North-East Information Officer, Malam Abdulkadir Ibrahim, it said this was in line with the agency’s mandate of providing succour to Internally Displaced Persons (IEDs).
“The agency has embarked on the distribution of food items to communities affected by the state
of emergency in the three states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.
“The gesture is aimed at tackling acute food shortages due to the on-going military offensive against terrorists in the area,’’ it said.
The statement said further that items distributed included bags of rice, millet, beans, noodles, sugar, milk, beverages, among others.
“NEMA also distributed drinking water to the communities to ameliorate their hardship,” it added.
The statement said the exercise started in May at New Marte, headquarters of Marte Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno.
“The distribution was kicked off in Marte LGA in May, by NEMA’s North-East Co-ordinator, Alhaji Muhammed Kanar, with a call on the citizens to be law-abiding and go about their normal activities.
“Kanar also advised the people to co-operate with security operatives by reporting suspicious movements and strange people in their localities,” the statement said.
It added that NEMA had so far covered areas like Marte LGA, Bama LGA and Maiduguri Metropolis, all in Borno, in the distribution exercise.
The statement disclosed that NEMA planned to commence the distribution of the items in Adamawa and Yobe next week.
