NAMA’s Cooperative Society Posts N11.2m Profit
The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) cooperative Society last Sunday in Lagos disclosed that it saved N130 million in 2012, as against N88 million in 2011.
The President of the society, Mr Edino Amos, said the amount of loans disbursed to members was over 40 per cent of the savings in 2012.
Amos said the society had the capacity to give several millions of Naira to individual as loans because of the confidence they reposed on the executive.
“The cooperative made a net profit of N11.2 million. It was set up with a mission to keep alive the yearnings of its members by striving to improve their socio-economic status.
“The essence of cooperative societies is to give a sense of belonging to members and strengthen the weak ones,” he said.
Amos noted that 2012 remained one of its challenging years, but with determination and dedication, the cooperative was able to scale through with significant achievements.
According to him, the cooperative has been able to assist members to secure loans at a very low interest rate.
Amos advised young workers to join cooperative societies as soon as possible, to safeguard their future, saying that 35 years in the civil service could come to nothing, if not well planned.
The president, however, urged managers of cooperatives societies in various government agencies to be above board, to restore the members’ confidence in them.
