The Sole Administrator of Rivers State Environmental Protection Agency (RSEPA) Chief Nemi .W. Adoki, has said that his major stake in the agency was to combat the ever-expanding challenges of environmental degradation in the state.

He said this during a courtesy with the zonal management of  Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) in Port Harcourt recently.

Adoki said he will also defend and protect the natural environment that will accommodate even the unborn generations of the state.

According to him, the body is putting together the enabling law which shall become fully operational in the state soonest.

He also called on stakeholders to shun the patronage of quacks and touts who have almost listed the name of the organisation in their unlawful activities.

The RSEPA boss, lamented the high level of damage done by the sector to the environment through oil spillages and destruction of the state’s ecosystem, saying the state is a major benefactor of the country’s oil   and gas sector.

He hinted that the body would not shy away from its responsibilities until the environmental issues of the state were restored.

Adoki, who frowned at any act of sabotage by both members of the public and companies said anyone found wanting would face the full weight of the law.

In her speech, the controller of DPR, Mrs O.C. Sibuen, promised to collaborate with RSEPA in its bid to sanitise the environment.

She noted that, though, her department was chiefly concerned about the operations in the oil and gas sector as well as the effect and impact of such on the environment, saying that the maintenance and sustenance of a clean environment will received the desired attention.

Earlier, Sibuen has lauded Adoki and his team over the visit, while assuring them of their support.
