UBE Board Member Urges Widows’ Empowerment
Public-spirited individuals in Rivers State have been charged to consider the empowerment of
the less privileged in the society as the best way to reach out to the people.
The Board member 1 of the Rivers State Universal Basic
Education (RSUBE), Hon. Lucky Worluh, gave the charge recently while donating
gift items to 350 widows at Ndele in Emohua local Government.
Worluh said widows as well as others who could not fend for
themselves ought to be given the best from members of the public, especially
the affluent ones. He noted that it was of no use to waste money on less
important things, while some people around wallow in hunger and penury.
He further charged the
people to initiate empowerment projects, saying that such projects could be
started from the family. The donor explained that the rice and wrapper given to each of the women
were a mere appreciation to God and a way to remember his late mother who
suffered some degree of hardship as a widow.
According to him, the project, would be sustained considering
the high level of poverty among the people especially those at the grassroots.
He also revealed that the gesture was to identify with the
widows in this festive season, adding that giving must not be among one’s
class.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on ICT,
Engr. Goodlife Nmekini, noted that the Worluh’s initiative was worth emulation judging
from his targeted audience.
Nmekini, who indicated interest in the project, said he would
always contribute his own quota to ensure that the initiative never ended half
way.
Meanwhile, one of the beneficiaries, Hon. Pricilia N. Ogbu,
prayed God to see the benefactor through all his endeavours, so as to enable
him reach out to them in a bigger dimension.
