NOA, Ebonyi To Tackle Exam Fraud
The National Orientation Agency (NOA), said in Abakaliki on Monday that it would
collaborate with the Ebonyi Ministry of Education to fight examination
malpracticeS in the state.
The Director of
the agency in Ebonyi, Mr Emmanual Abba, made the promise during a courtesy
visit to the state’s Commissioner for Education, Mr Ndubuisi Chibueze-Agbo.
Abba, who was
represented by Mr Sam Ebenyi, the Assistant Director, said the collaboration
would lead to zero examination malpractice in the state.
He noted that
examination malpractice had become a cankerworm that had eaten into the fabrics
of the education sector, arguing that only a sustained and aggressive fight
would stem the tide.
He praised the
commissioner for his commitment and dogged fight against the syndrome since his
assumption of office.
He said the
latest statistics released by WAEC indicated that Ebonyi was no longer on the
list of examination malpractice-endemic states.
The NOA boss
said reorientation was needed to sustain the gains already made by the
ministry.
He cautioned
parents and guardians against choosing careers for their children, saying they
should allow them to decide based on their areas of comparative advantage.
He said the
agency would synergise with the church, civil society groups and other critical
stakeholders in the education sector for moral re-orientation.
Responding,
Chibueze-Agbo said the government was ready to partner with any group, agency,
organisation or individuals in the fight against examination malpractices in
the state.
“Our hands are
open to receive and to work with anybody or group interested in the fight
against this evil.
“The
government is committed to total eradication of all forms of examination
malpractice in the state,’’ he said.
