NUT Warns Teachers Against Illegal Fees Collection
The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Rivers State Wing, has
warned teachers who engage in illegal collection of fees from pupils and
students to stop.
The Chairman of NUT, Comrade Moses Adiela dropped down the
warning in an interview with newsmen at the 2012 World Teachers Day celebration
at the Isaac Boro Park, Port Harcourt, Friday.
Comrade Adiela expressed satisfaction that the Governor of
Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi has promise that imprest would be made
available to school heads for the day-to-day running of the schools.
According to the NUT Chairman, initially, when teachers were
humiliated while they collect money, we felt bad, because a situation where
imprest were not given to the teachers, you cannot use your monthly salary to
run a school but we are happy that today, that issue has been addressed.
“So we are also advising our teachers to stop any form of
collection in both our primary and secondary schools”, he maintained.
He said from now on, the NUT would set up a committee to
monitor the issue of illegal collection in schools because according to him,
the NUT is fed up with the embarrassment.
He insisted that any teacher who flouts the order would be
disciplined.
