Flood Sacks Ahoada West Communities
About 28 communities in Ahoada West Local Government Area of
Rivers State, including the LGA capital, Akinima has been ravaged by flood.
The communities became flooded following torrential rains
and over flow of Rivers that submerged the communities rendering many people
homeless and destroying properties worth millions of naira.
Also hit was the palace of the Eze Ekpeye Logbo, Eze
Robinson O. Robinson at Odiereke community.
When the The Tide visited some of the affected communities,
canoes were used as means of movement as the entire habitation was flooded.
Speaking to newsmen, the Paramount Ruler of Mbiama
Community, HRM Eze Sumo Dikio, said the flood has paralyzed economic activities
in the area as schools, Health Centres, Markets and farm lands had been
submerged.
The Paramount Ruler appealed to the Rivers State Government
and other relevant agencies to come to the aid of the victims who have suffered
untold lost.
Also speaking, the Paramount Ruler of Odiereke Ubie, home
town of Eze Ekeye logbo, Chief Austine Kanayo, said the people have been
devastated by the flood and called on government to assist them with relief
materials.
In his reaction to the incidence, the Paramount Ruler of
Akinima, HRH Adide Mazi lamented the effect of the flood, stating that relevant
authorities should assist in the rehabilitation of the people, and save them
from the hardship.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the inaugurated a 4 man flood
accessment committee to ascertain the level of damage and also recommend
measures to tackling the flood.
