AYC Qualifier: Flying Eagles Hold Amajita 1-1
A goal from Abduljeleel Ajagun secured a 1-1 draw for
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles over their South African counterparts at the weekend.
Nigeria’s Under-20s secured a crucial away draw after
holding the hosts in Nelspruit in the first leg of the final round of
qualifiers for the African Youth Championshi, AYC.
Amajita took the lead in the first half through Thabani
Mthembu, but Ajagun levelled the scores for the Nigerians in the second half
after the defence failed to clear a corner kick.
The Flying Eagles are now favourites to progress ahead of
the return leg, which is scheduled to take place on October 7 at the Ilorin
Township Stadium in Kwara State.
Nigeria, who are the current Under-20 African champions, had
earlier knocked out Tanzania by a 4-1 aggregate scoreline.
