Transport Forum Holds In PH, Today
All roads lead to the Atlantic Hall of Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt, as the Rivers State Ministry of Transport holds its public forum today.
The forum with its theme; “The Rivers Monorail Project and The Future Of Public Transportation In Rivers State”, issues, challenges and way forward” will have the Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as the Special Guest of Honour, the Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar as Guest of Honour and O.C.J. Okocha (SAN) as the chairman of the occasion.
The Tide correspondent gathered that eminent personalities from all walks of life are expected to grace the occasion, which will feature the Director of Rail Operations in Gibb (project management consultants to the Rivers State government on the Rivers Monorail Project), Mr. Wimpie Oosthuizen, to speak on “An appraisal of the Rivers Monorail Project status and future”.
Also expected to present paper at the forum is the Director for Transportation in the city of Johannesburg, South Africa, Lisa Sifted, who will be speaking on “public transportation framework; regulation and institution building”, while Mr. Eric Motshwane, Corporate Affairs and Communications Director of Piotrans Ltd, will speak on “the role of local transport unions in public transportation reforms”.
Other speakers are the Controller General of the Rivers State Road Traffic Management Authority (TIMARIV), Dr. Nelson Jaja, who will be speaking on “Regulatory enforcement under the Rivers State transport sector reforms, challenges and way forward”, while Mr. Johan Van Der Westhuizen, the Director Gibb Engineering and Science will speak on “Rail Operations in developing economics; the concessionaire option”.
The public, civil society organisations, professional bodies, traditional rulers, CDC Chairman, Councillors, Religious leaders, captains of industries, political leaders and all stakeholders in transportation business are invited to be part of the occasion.
