The Tin Can Port Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Tuesday said it generated N85.2 billion revenue between January and May 2012.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Chris Osunkwo, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.

Mr. Osunkwo said that the command recorded N17.1 billion in May, up from N15.2 billion recorded in April, adding that the  command collected N14.6 billion in January, N19.3 billion in February, and N19 billion in March.

The spokesman said the management of the command was optimistic that the revenue target of N22 billion earmarked for the command in June would be met, stressing  that items seized during the five months included falsely and under-declared vehicles, furniture, soaps, used tyres, ladies bags and shoes, fridges and washing machines.

He  said the value of the seizures was estimated at N149 million.

Our Correspondent also reports that the Ports and Terminal Multi-Services Ltd. Command of NCS recorded N6.5 billion as revenue in May, the highest monthly revenue in the history of the command.

Mr Steve Okonma, the Public Relations Officer of the command, told newsmen that the amount realised in May exceeded the N5.1 billion generated in April.

He attributed the higher revenue to dedication of officers and the good leadership.
