NUJ Decries Insecurity, Poor State Of Roads
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zone F, has decried
the deplorable conditions of the East-West Road and other roads across the
country.
In a communiqué made available to newsmen at the end of its
zonal meeting in Calabar, Cross River State, the union stressed the need for
their urgent completion of the East-West road in the interest of the people.
The communiqué also condemned the spate of bombings,
assassinations, robberies and other forms of violence across the country and
urged the Federal Government to urgently address the problem of insecurity in
the country.
It condoled the Edo State Council of the union and the state
government over the assassination of the Private Secretary to Governor Adams
Oshiomhole as well as the families of Chuks Ogu, the ITV journalists and three
other journalists who died in a fatal accident involving the Governor’s convoy.
The Zone also condoled the family, and the Rivers State
Council of the NUJ over the death of Mr. Friday Nwinudee, Editor of The Tide On
Sunday and a former Secretary of the Rivers State Council.
While commending the Cross River State government for its
support to the union and the zone for the recent South South Summit in Asaba,
it also commended officials of the zone for their purposeful leadership.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zone F.
has endorsed the candidacy of the National Chairman of the union, Comrade
Mohammed Garba as he seeks a second term.
According to a communiqué made available to newsmen the
chairmen and secretaries of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zone F said
that their support for the re-election of Mohammed Garba was based on his
achievements and urged other zones to encourage the National President for
second term.
The communiqués were jointly signed by Comrade Pius Ede
zonal vice president Zone F and Sam Egbala the zone Secretary as well as
chairmen and secretaries of all state councils in the zone.
