Oyo Customs Rake In N10b, Seize N28m Drugs
The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigerian Customs Service realised N10.3 billion as revenue from January to November.
Briefing journalists in Ibadan recently, the Area Comptroller, Hassan Mundu, said the highest revenue of N1.8 billion was collected in May, followed by N1.1 billion in November and N1.03 billion in October.
Mundu said the lowest revenue was N694.4 million collected in September.
In spite of the huge revenue, the comptroller said the command was hoping to realise more in December as it had not attained its target for the year.
He attributed the achievements recorded during the year to the enabling environment created by the headquarters administration as well as support from the people in the area.
Mundu also said the command seized medicines worth N28.7 million from smugglers at a border area with Benin Republic .
Displaying the seized medicines, he said the drugs were intercepted by the anti-smuggling patrol team of the command.
“The items were concealed in some textile materials and smuggled into the country through unapproved routes’’, Mundu said.
The seized drugs were 100 cartons of 250mg of ampicillin capsules with the brand name “climpicillin’’ and 91 cartons of cyproheptadine caplets with brand name “feed fine.’’
Another 150 cartons of OSTNIM tablets were also among the medicaments hidden in a Mercedes Benz truck with Lagos number plate XY281 LSR.
