Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has identified quality leadership as the bedrock of good governance.

Governor Amaechi made the observation, at the public presentation of a book titled ‘Nigeria, Leadership and Development: Essays in Honour of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’ edited by Dr Eme Ekekwe of the University of Port Harcourt at the Rivers State House of Assembly Auditorium, at the weekend in Port Harcourt.

Represented by Senator Magnus Abe, Governor Amaechi called for the exhibition of good character and unquestionable track record by people in various positions of public  trust in order to foster transformation in the society.

Senator Abe described Governor Amaechi as the inspiration for the book, since he had demonstrated courage and strong commitment to improving the wellbeing of the people.

He, however, noted that the book also reflects the country as a whole and urged people to buy and read for themselves.

“The way I have seen it, Amaechi is the inspiration for the book, but he is not the subject matter. This book is not a book about Amaechi, this is a book about Nigeria; it is about the future of Nigeria and it is important that everybody who loves this country should get the book and read it,” Abe said.

He congratulated the authors of the book for their effort and stressed the need for Nigerians to imbibe the culture of reading. “Don’t only read it, but digest the content”, he stated.

In his remarks, the Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Peter Obi represented by the State’s Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Michael Egbebike paid glowing tribute to the exemplary leadership style of Governor Amaechi which according to him is worthy of emulation. “The man, Governor Rotimi Amaechi is a person that needs to be emulated, a giant among giants and a fearless leader.”

Also, Chairman of the book launch and Speaker, Federal House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal represented by the Attorney General of Rivers State and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Wogu Boms said the issues raised in the book would stimulate debate that was germane to good governance while drawing attention to some contemporary views in the book that needed to be revisited.

Speaking further, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Amachree who was represented by Hon. Onari Brown said the compilation would serve as a reference point to aspiring and today’s leaders.

The book is a compilation of essays by renowned scholars under the auspices of Garden City Leadership Initiative.
