NUJ Honours Mrs Amaechi
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Rivers State Council has conferred an award of excellence on the wife of the Rivers State Governor and founder of the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI), Dame Judith Amaechi.
Dame Aamechi was recognised in appreciation of her contributions towards the development of early childhood care education, women’s economic and political development as well as service to humanity during the NUJ award nite which climaxes the Union’s Press Week 2011.
Presenting the award on behalf of the NUJ, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Ibim Semenitari said the award was an eloquent testimony and appreciation of the Rivers first lady’s selfless service to the people.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Amaechi thanked the NUJ for the honour, and said that the award would encourage her to do more.
Represented by the wife of the speaker, State House of Assembly, Mrs. Gilda Otelemaba Dan Amachree, Mrs. Amaechi commended the media for the support and partnership in their collective resolve and quest to improve the well-being of the Rivers people.
She vowed not to relent in her determination to complement the state government’s effort in providing quality service to the people, especially in the early child education sector.
The ESI a non-governmental organisation founded by the governor’s wife is an interventionist effort aimed at providing mass literacy and early child education among children of the less privilege especially in the rural communities as well as provide economic empowerment and sustainability for women.
