Rivers Governorship, Divinely Designed –Amaechi

The Governorship seat in Rivers State is divinely instituted and is not a product of cabals, Governor Chibuike Amaechi has said.

Rt Hon Amaechi made the assertion in Port Harcourt, yesterday during an inter-denominational thanksgiving service to commemorate the October 25th Supreme Court Judgment that brought his administration to power in 2007.

Amaechi argued that since the administration of Chief Rufus Ada-George, God had always played supernatural role to determine who governs the state, saying, “the  governorship of Rivers State is 80- 90 percent determined by God”.

He explained that those who failed to see the finger of God in who led the state should use the court judgement as a reference point.

Recalling his travails, Amaechi declared,” Believe you me, I never thought of becoming a Governor for one day”.

However, with intense prayers from men of God, support from friends and political associates, Amaechi averred that he was able to surmount the difficulties after his primary election victory was upturned.

The Governor therefore urged the citizenry to learn from his travails and averred that challenges were meant to bring the best out of people,” Christ can tempt us because He wants to tempt our faith in Him”.

Consequently, some prominent citizens of the state have hailed the administration of Rt. Hon Amaechi as visionary and divinely guided. Former member of House of Representatives representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency, Hon Georgeford Nwosu said the landmark judgement had brought transformation to the state.

Hon Nwosu opined,” it has brought good governance, that judgement has brought good roads and everything you can talk about, so, we have every right to worship God.”

A similar view was expressed by Hon Dawari George representing Akuku-Toru/Asari-Toru Federal constituency in the National Assembly.

Hon George explained that the judgement had set a precedent for other courts and given hope to politicians whose ambition had been scuttled like that of Amaechi, “ you can see all over the country that many political parties are becoming careful concerning their gubernatorial candidates,” he noted.

In the same vein, Chairman of the State Council of the Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN),Apostle Zilly Aggrey contended that the present administration had brought tremendous change in the state,” I have been in Port Harcourt for 41 years and I can testify that the past four years has witnessed appreciable development in infrastructure, power development and our prayer today is that the good works going on in the state should be completed before 2015.”
